IoT – What is it?
Imagine your toys talking to each other! The Internet of Things (IoT)
is when everyday objects – like fridges, cars, or even light bulbs – can
“chat” through the internet.
They send small messages to help us live easier.
Story-like Explanation
Long ago, people invented machines like the telegraph (1830s) and radio
(1900).
Later, computers (1950s) and tiny chips made it possible for objects to
connect.
In 1999, Kevin Ashton used the name “Internet of Things” when talking about
RFID tags.
Since then, IoT has grown into smart homes, smart cities, and even smart
farms.
Simple Examples
- Your toothbrush tells your phone if you brushed well.
- A fridge warns you when milk is finished.
- Energy companies use IoT to talk with smart meters and balance electricity.
Where is IoT used?
IoT is everywhere: in the UK, France, Portugal, USA, China, and many
more.
It helps hospitals, farmers, shops, and even buses.
Millions of devices are connected today.
